The idea for this website was encouraged by a passing comment from Major Hibbert, the club founder, at the Children in Need 24 hour Sail 2008. He mentioned that with the club's 50th birthday in just a few years time someone should write a book about the history of the club. It was thought that perhaps it would be useful to start collecting the memories of the past members of the club in one place so one day the job would be easier for someone.
The other half the reason for creating this site is that for the 24 hour sail 2008 the organisers of the event contacted many of the past commodores of the club to see if they would like to come back for the event. This was a great success and so it was felt that it would be sensible for there be a place where past members of the club could keep in contact with each other. This may be particularly useful for the 50th Anniversary events.
